Tech circa 2021 excludes people from marginalized communities and identities:
- Women,
- Black, Indigenous, and People of Color,
- LGBTQ+ People,
- People with Disabilities,
- Older career switchers, and
- People in regions with underdeveloped tech sectors.
Tech creates barriers for people in these communities that make it harder to break in and harder to thrive once they're there.
We believe that…
- Teams are more innovative and able to tackle complex problems when they include people who bring diverse perspectives
- We can increase access to paid jobs for people from marginalized identities and communities by providing training, support, and sponsorship
- As people associated with The Collab Lab make it into tech jobs, they will open doors for those following them
We are activists. We are actively trying to change tech to be more inclusive by helping people from groups currently underrepresented gain their foothold.
